The Hughes Family

Our family's history and involvement in the Pacific Northwest is quite interesting and diverse. We have a long history of engagement in various business ventures, particularly in timberland operations and real estate.

Here's a breakdown of our history:

Early Timberland Operations:
Our family's roots in the Pacific Northwest date back over a century when James and Violet Hughes established the first small timberland operations for our family. We had a surface level connection to the west coast region's forestry and logging industry, which has historically been significant in the Pacific Northwest.

Diversification in the 1940s & 60s:
In the mid-20th century, the our family underwent a shift in our business strategy. We divested from a majority of our timberland holdings and began participating in joint ventures and management operations of larger multi-family properties in Seattle.

Reinvestment in Timberland:
By the early 2000s, our family decided to reinvest heavily in the timberland market, expanding our presence in the timber industry. This move was driven by factors such as the growing demand for sustainable timber resources or a desire to return to our historical roots.

Diverse Investment Portfolio:

Our family's investment portfolio is diversified, with a mix of timberland holdings, public securities, private equity, bonds and multi-family real estate.
Our active investments include small tracts of timberland in Canada and the United States, with a focus on professional reforestation, timber rights leasing, silviculture, fatwood importing/exporting, precision forestry and management.
Additionally, we own a series of multi-family properties ranging from 16 to 70 units directly, as well as commercial properties which are managed by third-party management firms. We also participate in joint venture acquisitions for larger properties, typically comprising 250 units or more as an LP.

Operational Entity: Hughes Pacific & Sequoiadendron Ventures.
It's worth noting that the we conduct our business activities, particularly in the timberland and real estate sectors, through an entity known as Hughes Pacific & Sequoiadendron Ventures. We take a structured and organized approach to managing our investments.

Our multi-generational involvement in the Pacific Northwest, along with our adaptability and diversification of investments over the years, is a testament to our long-term commitment to the region's economic and environmental landscapes and wealth preservation. We have found a balance between timberland operations and real estate, catering to different aspects of the economy in the Pacific Northwest.
